The norvegian sailor Oyvind Tangen, in his expedition to Antarctida discovered some interesting icerbergs, which formed a hundred or a thousand years ago. The first iceberg is one full of colorated stripes. The stripes formed when layers of the iceberg melted and refroze.

A few days later the sailor saw a striped iceberg with a striking diagonal blue line through it, which has 30 metres above the ocean. Blue stripes are created when a crevice in the ice sheet fills up with meltwater and freezes so quickly that no bubbles form. Brown, black and yellow lines are caused by sediment, picked up when the ice sheet grinds downhill towards the sea. The biggest known iceberg is the height of a 55 storey building.
